• World-Renowned Cancer Care: Our own Dr. Louis B. Harrison, a leader in multidisciplinary cancer treatment, is guiding his team of doctors in using the latest techniques of brachytherapy implants to target radiation directly at tumors in order to preserve the function of surrounding organs.
• Top Cardiac Treatment: Dr. Robert Tranbaugh, our Chief of Cardiac Surgery, is an expert in myocardial revascularization and like his colleague Dr. Harrison is recognized as one of America’s best doctors. Members of his team of heart surgeons are experts in treating a vast array of vascular conditions from aortic aneurysms to valve replacement – often using the minimally invasive techniques that return our patients to health as quickly as possible.
• Yarmon Division Critical Care for Stroke Patients: Yarmon Division Critical Care for Stroke Patients: Beth Israel’s Chief of Neurocritical Care and stroke expert, Dr. Irene Boniece, leads a team of doctors who deliver fast and accurate diagnosis for stroke patients. As the team begins anticoagulation therapies –such as a newly developed intra-arterial thrombolysis device to remove clots – they can help prevent permanent neurological damage.
• Friedman Diabetes Center: Diabetes is now the fifth-most-common cause of death in adults (and one in ten New Yorkers now suffers from the epidemic). At our Friedman Diabetes Center in addition to supporting research on disease, the institute helps patients avoid serious problems through education, monitoring, diet, and exercise changes.
• The Beth Israel ALS Center (ALS Certified Center): Beth Israel is the only hospital in New York with an ALS Association Certified Center to serve patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Geared toward helping patients live more productively and independently, the Center provides a coordinated program of medical treatment, rehabilitation techniques, and psychological support in a compassionate environment. Comprehensive assessments, diagnostic and follow-up testing, education, and treatment are individualized for each patient.
• The AIDS Center at Beth Israel Medical Center: Beth Israel’s Peter Krueger Clinic has been a leader in AIDS care since 1981. As a Designated AIDS Center (DAC), we provide comprehensive outpatient services including primary medical care, gynecological services, oral health care, mental health services, social work and COBRA case management, treatment education and adherence counseling, harm-reduction programs, nutritional support, acupuncture, meditation, massage therapy, and family-centered pediatric care. For longer-term recovery, the Robert Mapplethorpe Residential Treatment Facility also offers wide-ranging care and support.
• Asian Services Program: This program offers culturally sensitive services to Asian patients and provides easy access to high-quality inpatient and outpatient care. We are proud to have a multicultural staff who can coordinate in-hospital care and serve patients in a manner that honors Asian culture, traditions, and language.
